REVOLT

After a three-year hiatus, Adroit Theory brings back its GI Joe-inspired Triple IPA series, this time honoring the Baroness with a beer built from flaked oats, wheat, and spelt that somehow still drinks soft.

Three years is a long time to leave a beloved series on the shelf, but Adroit Theory Brewing Company has finally brought back its twelve-part homage to GI Joe and its arch nemesis COBRA. REVOLT marks the third release in that saga, and this time the spotlight lands on everyone's favorite antagonist, the Baroness, rendered across the can in the kind of striking red, white, and blue artwork that looks like it escaped from a vintage propaganda poster.

This is a Hazy Triple IPA, which is a category that exists specifically to remind you that "triple" is not a typo. Loads of flaked oats, flaked wheat, and spelt build a pillowy soft malt body underneath, while double dry-hopping with Citra and Mosaic delivers juicy aromatics of fresh cut passion fruit and candied lychee, with just a hint of dank resinous flavor sneaking in at the finish. It's an ambitious amount of beer wearing a surprisingly soft, fruity disguise.

Reviving a series after three years takes either confidence or stubbornness, and at Adroit Theory it's probably a bit of both. The Purcellville brewery has never been shy about elaborate concept series, and bringing back a fan favorite rather than just launching something new suggests they know exactly what their audience has been waiting for.

REVOLT is available now on draft and in cans, so the wait, at least, is finally over. Whether you're in it for the GI Joe nostalgia, the can art, or just a very well constructed Triple IPA, this is a comeback worth showing up for.

Nine more releases to go in this series, at the current pace, gives everyone plenty of time to argue about which COBRA operative deserves the next can.
